John Deere snowblowers are sold in two series, single stage and dual stage. Single stage snowblowers are more suitable for small areas or light snow. Dual stage snowblowers are designed for much larger areas or heavy, moist snow. Differences between Single Stage and Dual Stage Snowblowers: A single stage snowblower has a drum-shaped rotating wheel called an auger which cuts the snow and lifts it to be thrown out through the chute. A dual stage snowblower also has an impeller which provides a more powerful lift so the snow can be thrown further. John Deere single stage snowblowers, models ST0522E and the ST0522M have clearing paths of 20″ and the dual stage snowblowers between 24″ and 32″.
